On 16th March, 2016 international nuclear emergency preparedness exercise took place with the participation of Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Austria and Hungary based on the scenario of a severe sleet happened in Slovenia, causing a critical situation in the country, threatening the Krsko Nuclear Power Plant. Beside the organs of the Directorate General for National Disaster Management, the HAEA Emergency Response Organization was also activated: our experts helped the decision makers by providing analysis and proposals.
Mr. Yukiya Amano handed over personally the certificate of appreciation to Mr. Gyula Fichtinger, Director General of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority and congratulated on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Hungarian Support Programme.
In 2017, the International Atomic Energy Agency is planning to conduct a large-scale Level 3 Convention Exercise that is based on a scenario involving a severe nuclear emergency at a nuclear power plant. Based on the strong commitment and support of the main partner organizations of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority, expressed by the Director General of the National Directorate General for Disaster Management and of the Director General of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant Hungary applies for hosting the ConvEx-3 (2017) Exercise.
