Chairman of US NRC visited Hungary


Dr. Dale E. Klein, chairman of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (US NRC) arrived in Hungary on 22 September for the invitation of dr. József Rónaky, Director General of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA). On 23 September he had a meeting with dr. József Pálinkás, President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS), then dr. Klein delivered a speech with the title „Nuclear renaissance” at the library hall of the HAS. In the afternoon he discussed current issues of common interest with the leading officials of the HAEA. On 24 September he visited the surface and undeground facilities of the National Radioactive Waste Repository in Bátaapáti to be opened officially on 6 October. The visit concluded by an international press conference. „Nuclear renaissance”

Lajos Vöröss, senior adviser of the HAEA dies


The Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority has suffered an irrecoverable loss; Lajos Vöröss, senior adviser, former Deputy Director General of the HAEA died on Thursday, 31 July with tragic suddenness. He was 68.

IAEA to Coordinate Major Exercise to Test Nuclear Accident Response


Vienna, 8 July 2008 - The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will coordinate a major exercise to test the response to a simulated accident at Mexico's Laguna Verde nuclear power plant starting tomorrow, 9 July 2008. 74 IAEA Member States and 10 international organizations will join the 48-hour drill to evaluate national and international preparedness for a possible nuclear or radiological emergency. Hungary will also take part in the exercise.
