New ovesight concept is supported by a new HAEA regulation and amendments to two previous ones

The amendments are focused primarily on the implementing rules for the new oversight concept for the construction of new nuclear units enabling a more efficient application of the regulatory supervision, more in line with the principle of the graded approach and adapted to the life cycle of the installation. The rules of the new regulation cover the register of independent inspection bodies that may be involved in inspections and their accreditation requirements. The associated administrative service fees of the HAEA will change as a result of the new registration tasks.

Plenary meeting of the OECD NEA Working Group on Leadership and Safety Culture at the HAEA

From 8 to 11 April, the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority hosted the plenary meeting of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) Working Group on Leadership and Safety Culture, which was opened by Andrea Beatrix Kádár, President of the HAEA. In her speech, she highlighted that in Year 2024 HAEA is focusing on the Safety Culture, and that many of the activities at the Authority are related to this topic, as well as its future plans.

HAEA delegation attended an international conference in the USA

The delegation of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA) led by Andrea Beatrix Kádár, President of the HAEA visited Rockville on March 12-14, 2024 to attend the annual international conference of the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). During the event the NRC presented the main results of its activities over the past year. The participants also had the opportunity to attend technical sessions to learn about technical and technological opportunities and challenges of the global nuclear sector as well as the potential solutions and proposals in this context.

HAEA and United Kingdom’s ONR sign MoU to strengthen cooperation

The Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) to ensure regulatory cooperation on matters of nuclear safety. The MoU, which lasts for five years, will strengthen the relationship between the two regulators, supporting the protection of society with safe and secure nuclear operations.

The Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority participated in the second Chain Bridge Forum

The second Chain Bridge Forum was held on 28 February 2024 in London. The event was jointly organised by the Royal United Services Institute, and the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs. The Forum aims to foster bilateral relationship between Hungary and the UK and encourage dialogue on current issues of common interest between policy experts, industry representatives and decision makers.
