Recent Developments in Nuclear Safety in Hungary, May 2023

The new issue of HAEA’s Nuclear Safety Bulletin presenting a number of interesting articles is now available. In the new issue, you can read about the most significant statistical data on nuclear safety, nuclear emergency preparedness and the licensing procedures of Paks II. Nuclear Power Plant Ltd. We also give an overview on the most significant domestic and international events, such as the "About atomic energy - for everyone" event in Budapest, the visit of the IAEA Director General to the HAEA, of experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Rwanda, of the delegation from Finland, the review meeting of the Convention on Nuclear Safety, the Hungarian-Austrian bilateral meeting, the HAEA delegation’s visit to the Turkish Nuclear Regulatory Authority, and the HAEA President’s visit to Argentina. In the new issue of the Bulletin, we also write about the Anniversary commemorative session with the annual Safeguards Forum that took place at the HAEA.
IAEA inspectors' training in Hungary

The training of the IAEA inspectors about the Additional Protocol in the framework of the Hungarian Support Programme, was organised by the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority between 15 and 19 May 2023. The purpose of the inspections according to the Additional Protocol is to assure the absence of nuclear activities in facilities undeclared by the state to the IAEA and the absence of undeclared activities in declared facilities.
HAEA congratulates the Slovak Nuclear Authority on its 30th anniversary

The president of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority congratulated the Nuclear Regulatory Authority of the Slovak Republic on its 30th anniversary in a short video message, highlighting the exceptionally good relations between the two partner regulators “as neighbours, as countries that operate the same type of nuclear power plants, as historical partners”.
ENSREG 52nd Plenary Meeting

The plenary meeting of the European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group (ENSREG) took place on the 24 April in Brussel where the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority’s representative and other participants discussed the ENSREG working groups’ activities on nuclear safety and international cooperation, waste management and decommissioning, and transparency and official communication.
OECD NEA Steering Committee 2023 Spring Meeting in Paris

The OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) Steering Committee, in the work of which the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority plays active role, held its 145th meeting in Paris on 20-21 April 2023. The reports on the agenda of the meeting included, among others, the organisation's programme of work and budgets, the current NEA joint projects and the situation of staff on loan at the NEA.
