OECD NEA public survey on risk communication

The OECD Nuclear Energy Agency is collecting views from stakeholders around the world on risk communication and asked member states to publish it on their own communication channels. For the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority it has a high importance to inform the public, to analyse and communicate risks, moreover HAEA follows closely the international activities related to this topic. To meet the requirements of openness, we also make the survey available.
Designation of an Acting Director General at IAEA

As a consequence of the recent sudden passing away of Director General Yukiya Amano, and in order to ensure the orderly and smooth functioning of the Agency, the IAEA Board of Governors has decided to designate Mr Cornel Feruta as acting Director General, until a Director General assumes office.

On 4-5 of July, 2019 Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority hosted a regional meeting for a better cross-border coordination of protective actions during a nuclear accident.
European Safeguards Symposium in Italy

The 41st meeting of the European Safeguards Research and Development Association (ESARDA) in Italy was held on 14-16 May 2019, where the organization also celebrated its 50th anniversary. For the symposium, three members of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority wrote a scientific paper and made a presentation on the topic of how the safeguards requirements should be taken into account from the very early stages of the design of a nuclear power plant. Such a requirement is, for example, where the cameras operated by the International Atomic Energy Agency are to be taken, or whether the route of nuclear fuel can be continuously monitored from delivery to transport from the power plant.
Training and examination of IAEA inspectors in Hungary

Between 15-18 April, 2019 a training course for the newcomer nuclear safeguards inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency was organized at the Paks Nuclear Power Plant.
