Commission assistance to transpose EU Basic Safety Standards

In 2013 the Council of the European Union approved a new radiation protection directive, which have to be transposed into the national legislation of the Member States by 2018. The national legislative bodies and the competent regulatory authorities have a major challenge in this regard, so the European Commission decided to closely follow the implementation , and provides legal and technical support to the EU Member States.

The Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority’s membership application to MDEP was accepted

The Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority applied for membership back in 2014, in order to prepare for the licensing of new NPP units in Hungary. HAEA gets full membership after this approval.

The IAEA also reviewed the national legislation on radiation protection and nuclear safety

In October 2015 within the framework of the two-week drafting school in Vienna, the International Atomic Energy Agency (hereinafter referred as IAEA) provided legal and technical assistance to 11 countries including our country. The IAEA experts together with the participants reviewed the draft legislation on radiation protection and nuclear safety focused on how they are in compliance with the IAEA requirements and recommendations, as well as with the required elements to be included.

IRRS Mission’s Final Report is available on HAEA website

In October, 2015 International Atomic Energy Agency sent the IRRS Mission’s Final Report to the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority. To meet the dual requirement of openness and transparency, HAEA has published the report on its website.
