IAEA Board of Governors Meeting in Vienna

The HAEA continues to perform its regulatory work

The Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority continues to carry out its official duties and regulatory work in compliance with the restrictive measures imposed by the Government and the Operational Staff because of the coronavirus situation. The HAEA has set up a Defense Working Committee whose task is to ensure the protection of workers, to continuously monitor government decisions related to the pandemic, and to organize the operation of the HAEA so that the performance of regulatory activities is continuously ensured.

OECD NEA Nuclear Energy Data 2019

OECD NEA published Nuclear Energy Data 2019 Edition

In 2020 March, OECD Nuclear Energy Agency published Nuclear Energy Data 2019 Edition that includes the most important statistical data of the member countries’ nuclear field and detailed information on each country. „As of 1 January 2019, 348 operational reactors were connected to the grid in NEA member countries. A total of 23 reactors were under construction, although the construction of 3 reactors in Japan has at least temporarily been halted. In addition, ten reactors were considered firmly committed to construction in the OECD area… By contrast, 27 reactors are planned to be retired from service by 2023.”

International Conference on Nuclear Security in Vienna

From 10 to 14 February over 57 ministers and more than 2000 experts from over 130 countries and 35 international organizations met at IAEA headquarters in Vienna to reaffirm their common commitment for strengthening nuclear security globally. HAEA experts also participated in the conference and presented their study on the Hungarian system of nuclear security inspections.
