Training and examination of IAEA inspectors in Hungary

On the first day of the four-day training, the inspectors were given a comprehensive overview of the power plant's technical characteristics, radiation protection rules, and the nuclear material registration and control system. Over the next two days, nuclear safeguards inspection practices took place in two-person groups at the power plant reactor hall. Simulating classical nuclear safeguards inspections, the inspectors carried out inventory control and measurements in the fresh fuel storage, inspected the spent fuel in the spent fuel pond, and practiced the application of the monitoring systems (cameras and camera systems) and the sealing systems (metal, optical and electronic seals) used by the IAEA. During the inspections, the inspectors visualized the locations where unnoticed nuclear material or activity traces could be detected.

At the end of the course, the eight inspectors had a practical test of what they learned, supervised by five IAEA instructors.
