Expert meeting in Budapest

The recovery actions related to the damaged fuel assemblies originated from the serious incident occurred at the Paks NPP on 10 April 2003 will be implemented in cooperation of the Paks NPP with the Russian TVEL company. The Nuclear Safety Directorate of the HAEA requested the assistance of Gosatomnadzor, the Russian nuclear regulatory body to evaluate the documents that analyse the safety of the removal process. An expert meeting aimed at the harmonization of the opinions on the analysis started on 7 September at the HAEA Headqurters with the participation of the four organisations. It is expected that the Paks NPP will submit the documents of the final analysis in November and they will be judged by the HAEA taking into account of the information obtained during the expert meeting.
