Workshop at the HAEA on the international and domestic regulation of nuclear trade

2023.10.24

Several experts from Hungarian companies participated in the workshop on the international and domestic regulation of nuclear trade on October 18, 2023, which was jointly organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA) within the framework of the IAEA's "Nuclear Trade Analysis" programme. Domestic companies involved in the production and foreign trade of nuclear and nuclear dual-use products and technologies have been invited to the event.

At the event, the nuclear trade analyst of the IAEA, the export control expert of the Government Office of the Capital City of Budapest (BFKH), and the inspector of the HAEA gave presentations to the audience of more than 40 people. The BFKH and the HAEA presented the development of the domestic nuclear export control system, the international non-proliferation agreements, and the role of the two offices in the authorization and control of foreign trade of nuclear and nuclear dual-use products. The offices also provided information on the latest changes in national regulations. The IAEA representative presented the agency's programme related to nuclear trade and drew attention to the importance of the programme among companies engaged in nuclear trade.

In 2006, the IAEA launched its programme called "Nuclear Trade Analysis", with the purpose to collect information on trade in nuclear and nuclear dual-use products with the support of member states. Hungary joined the program in 2012 as part of the Safeguards Support Programme provided to the IAEA, and then similar domestic events took place in 2013 and 2019.
