2023.11.21
Plenary meeting of the WENRA

The autumn plenary meeting of the Western European Nuclear Regulators Association (WENRA) took place in Paris on 14 and 15 November 2023, with László Juhász, Vice-President of the Authority, representing the Hungarian Atomic Energy Agency.

The participants adopted WENRA's new strategy and ToR (Terms of Reference), which will enter into force in January 2024. The new strategy focuses on a limited number of strategic objectives, such as establishing common safety requirements on key issues, developing best practices for regulatory cooperation on the review and assessment of new technologies, and developing a common understanding or WENRA position on challenging issues. During the meeting, the Heads of Nuclear Regulatory Authorities discussed a number of important topical issues, including the safety situation of nuclear installations in Ukraine and the reports of the working groups. Based on the new criteria established by WENRA to clarify its membership, the Polish regulator which had the observer status, was granted the full member status, and in addition, the Japanese regulator, which had an observer status since 2016, was granted the status of associated member.
