WENRA Fall Plenary Meeting

2021.10.19
WENRA

The Western European Nuclear Regulators Association (WENRA) held its Fall Plenary Meeting on 14-15 October 2021 partly with personal participation in Paris and partly online. Among others, the implementation of the WERNRA strategy, WENRA’s role in the Thematic Peer Review (TPR) II were discussed, and the reports of working groups were approved.

The Plenary had a lively debate on the technical specifications of TPR-II. WENRA endorsed to implement the graded approach for facilities covered by the scope of the review (the depth of the analysis depends on the type of the facility). Further consultations are needed before submitting the document to the European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group for approval.

Members granted the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission the status of associated member instead of its former observer status and they decided to grant the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory the status of observer.

The Plenary noted and approved the reports of the WENRA working group Chairs about their latest activities and agreed that the WENRA spring 2022 meeting is scheduled to take place on 5-6 April 2022.
