IAEA Board of Governors meeting in Vienna

From 14 to 18 September, 2020, the IAEA Board of Governors meeting took place at the Agency's headquarters in Vienna, Austria. Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi addressed the Board on important issues, including the agreement with Iran on outstanding safeguards issues and the support to Lebanon following the recent explosion. At the meeting, Hungary thanked the IAEA for its great effort to assist its Member States (Hungary included) in their fights against Covid-19. It was highlighted that each and every country has the right to choose its energy mix, suitable for its own needs and capabilities, and nuclear energy remains a key component of the energy mix of Hungary. It was also pointed out that during the pandemic nuclear safety remains a priority for Hungary, with relevance to the implementation of the new nuclear units as well.
