Expert meeting in Budapest

The recovery actions - related to the damaged fuel assemblies that originate from the April 10, 2003 serious incident at the Paks NPP - will be implemented in cooperation with the Russian TVEL company. The Nuclear Safety Directorate of the HAEA requested the assistance of Gosatomnadzor, the Russian nuclear regulatory body to evaluate the documents that analyse the safety of the removal process. An expert meeting aimed at the harmonization of the opinions on the analysis documents started on 7 September at the HAEA Headqurters with the participation of the four organisations involved. It is expected that the Paks NPP submits the final analysis in November and the submittal shall be evaluated by the HAEA also taking into account the information obtained during the expert meeting.
