On 15 August, the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority participated in a one-day online workshop on small modular reactors, organised by the UK Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR).
The objective of the workshop was to offer participants a detailed insight into the UK regulators' processes and practices for the assessment and licensing of new reactors. In this context, potential areas and mechanisms for future cooperation between regulatory authorities in relation to the assessment and licensing of small modular reactors and new reactors more broadly were also explored.
In addition to the HAEA, the nuclear regulators of the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Slovakia and Ukraine participated in the workshop, where they unanimously expressed their openness to further deeper cooperation in the field of regulatory supervision of small modular reactors.
