Vietnamese delegation at the HAEA

2014.12.11

On the 8th of December 2014, a Vietnamese delegation led by Mr Hoang Anh Tuan, Director General of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Agency visited the HAEA and was received by Mr Szabolcs Hullán, Deputy Director General. The visitors were primarily interested in the opportunities to train nuclear specialists within the framework of cooperation between the two countries.

Since Vietnam is building Russian-designed VVER-type nuclear power plants similar to the ones in Paks, the Vietnamese experts would like to learn about the Hungarian experiences in detail. To this end, in recent years, about three hundred Vietnamese technicians came to our country for training in the Institute of Nuclear Techniques of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Paks Nuclear Power Plant, and into the HAEA. It was also an important issue at the meeting, how to pass on useful knowledge and experience continuing the cooperation.

Mr Hoang Anh Tuan noted that the HAEA is an important partner for them in training nuclear professionals, because its safety-related performance and monitoring in connection with the operation of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant has always been high quality over the past thirty years.

Mr Szabolcs Hullán said the Hungarian institutions were open to continue the exchange of experience, information transfer, and the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority was looking forward to further cooperation with the Vietnam Atomic Energy Agency.
