HAEA President meets with the IAEA Director General

Meeting with Director General of IAEA

On 27 September 2023, Ms Andrea Beatrix Kádár, President of the HAEA, held a meeting with Mr Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), on the margin of the 67th IAEA General Conference in Vienna. During the meeting, the President of the HAEA congratulated Mr Grossi on his appointment by the General Conference as Director General of the Agency for an additional four-year term and reviewed the current state of play of the modernisation of the Hungarian nuclear regulatory framework.

The HAEA had its last online discussion with the IAEA in July 2023 on the planned amendment of the Nuclear Safety Codes (NSC), and as a follow-up to this meeting, the two leaders discussed the modernisation of the Hungarian nuclear regulatory framework, including one of the most important tasks of the HAEA in 2023, the current status of the NSC revision, and the progress of the IAEA's initiative to harmonise the regulation of small modular reactors.

During the meeting, the HAEA President Ms Andrea Beatrix Kádár indicated that the Hungarian authority will invite the IAEA's IRRS (Integrated Regulatory Review Service) mission in the near future as part of the ten-yearly review of the regulatory framework. The last mission took place in 2015.
