WENRA spring Plenary

The Western European Nuclear Regulators Association (WENRA) held its spring Plenary Meeting online on 13-14 April 2021. Among others, WENRA’s role in the Thematic Peer Review (TPR) II was discussed, reports of working groups were approved and members decided not to widen the participation in WENRA to other observers.

The Plenary had a lively debate on TPR-II because of its special topic (fire protection). A TPR-II working group was established as an ad hoc group under WENRA Reactor Harmonisation Working Group to write the technical specifications. Hungary is also taking part in the work of the ad hoc group in a coordinative role regarding research reactors.

The Plenary noted and approved the reports of the WENRA working group Chairs about their latest activities.

As far as participation in WENRA is concerned, members decided not to widen the participation in WENRA to other observers, except to a very limited number of regulators from large nuclear countries and to any regulator from any EU non-nuclear country, which would request it.

Finally, future relevant international events were outlined like the Stakeholders Workshop to be organised in June 2021 by the European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group (ENSREG) in connection with preparations for TPR-II. The WENRA fall 2021 meeting is scheduled to take place on 9-10 November 2021.
