Plenary meeting of the OECD NEA Working Group on Leadership and Safety Culture at the HAEA

2024.04.11

From 8 to 11 April, the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority hosted the plenary meeting of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) Working Group on Leadership and Safety Culture, which was opened by Andrea Beatrix Kádár, President of the HAEA. In her speech, she highlighted that in Year 2024 HAEA is focusing on the Safety Culture, and that many of the activities at the Authority are related to this topic, as well as its future plans.

The President of the HAEA congratulated the Working Group on its three years of work and on the publications recently published by the OECD NEA. The publications provide support for the development of leadership practices to enhance the safety culture of nuclear authorities, and examine the impact of the safety culture of nuclear authorities and licensees on each other and how the authority can positively influence this impact on the licensee through its own safety culture.

The publications are available on the OECD NEA website.

The chairman of the working group, Mr. Nobuhiko Ban, presented the main objective of the meeting, which was mainly to define the next tasks of the working group. The participants agreed to develop and organise an event (mini-workshop) that would help to promote the awareness of responsibility in the performance of the licensee's duties. It was also suggested that the working group should develop a toolkit to facilitate the practical use of the recently published OECD NEA publications.

On the fourth day of the meeting, the working group visited the Paks NPP, where they visited the Visitors' Centre, Unit 2 and the Maintenance Training Centre.
