Harmonisation of reactor safety

2006.12.04

In 1999 the Western European Nuclear Regulators’ Association (WENRA) established a Reactor Harmonization Working Group (RHWG). Since 2003 Hungary has also been taking part in the work of the group. The RHWG has recently completed the tasks that were formulated in its mandate document: it developed the Reference Levels (Requirements) in 18 different areas of nuclear safety and performed benchmarking with the Reference Levels (RLs) concerning both legally binding regulations and their implementation in all nuclear power plants in the 17 participating countries.

The results have been evaluated and published in a Summary Report. The WENRA member organizations have decided that the finalized version of the RLs will be introduced into their regulations until 2010 and the implementation will also be completed shortly thereafter. National Action Plans have been drafted – the first Hungarian draft is below – which will be renewed when an updated version of RLs is issued. The final version of both the set of RLs and the Action Plan will be available both in Hungarian and English language. Reference Levels Action Plan
