At the fourth meeting of the Working Party on Atomic Questions (WPAQ) of the Council of the European Union held in November under the Hungarian presidency of the Council of the EU, Member States were briefed on the activities of international organisations and their technical events, and received an overview of the nuclear safety situation in Ukraine.
The preparation of the Eighth Review Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Joint Convention, as well as the preparation of the forthcoming plenary meeting of the European Nuclear Safety Authorities Group (ENSREG) were the main topics of discussion.
In their presentation of nuclear safety in Ukraine, the European Commission gave an overview of the nuclear safety of nuclear facilities in Ukraine (with an emphasis on the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant) and conveyed the gratitute of the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi, for the support provided by the European Union.
