Delegation of the Romanian regulatory authority visits Hungary

The delegation of the Romanian regulatory authority led by its president visited Hungary between 12-14 February, 2019 to consult on specific issues related to the implementation of the EU directive on protection against ionising radiation.


In his opening speech Szabolcs Hullán, Deputy Director General of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority highlighted the importance of the cooperation with neighbouring countries focusing on topics of common interest and challenges.

Consultations related to the topic of radon and naturally occurring radioactive materials, especially cross border cooperation, emergency preparedness and response, the bilateral management of illicit trafficking of radioactive materials were held. The Romanian delegation paid special attention to questions regarding radon (e.g. radon map).

As part of the program, they visited the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, the Interim Spent Fuel Storage Facility, the National Radioactive Waste Repository and the Radioactive Waste Treatment and Disposal Facility.

To strengthen bilateral cooperation, the Romanian delegation invited the HAEA to participate in a radon conference in May in Bucharest organized in the frame of the Romanian EU presidency. They expressed their intention to hold further expert level consultations on the topics of the present visit.
