WENRA Spring Plenary Meeting

The spring Plenary Meeting of the Western European Nuclear Regulators Association (WENRA) took place in Helsinki on 5 and 6 April 2023 with the participation of László Juhász, Vice-President of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority.


At the meeting, the leaders of the nuclear safety authorities discussed a number of important topical issues, such as the situation of nuclear facilities in Ukraine and the possibilities for WENRA support. In the light of the current challenges, the new WENRA strategy was discussed as well as the challenges and achievements in securing regulatory resources were reviewed. WENRA also decided to set up a new ad-hoc group focusing on stress corrosion cracking. As a result of the plenary meeting, the development of an interagency collaboration on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) has started. The WENRA statement on this topic is available here.
