After the usual annual bilateral meeting in October 2015, Austria put several further questions to Hungary concerning the planned new reactor units of Paks NPP, so as a follow-up to the one in October last year, an extraordinary bilateral meeting was held on 19 May 2016.
The head of the Austrian delegation, Mr.
Andreas Molin, Head of Division of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture,
Forestry, Environment and Water Management, highlighted that the Austrian-Hungarian
bilateral relationship, which has the longest tradition in Austria, has
continuously provided an opportunity for exchange of information between
the two countries since the 1980s. Mr. Molin also expressed his hope that
future consultations will be held in the usual cooperative and open spirit.
In his answer to questions of the Austrian
delegation, Mr. Attila Aszódi, Government Commissioner for Maintaining
the Performance of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, gave a detailed description
of the environmental and site licensing proceedings as well as the current
status of the European Union procedures in connection with the project.
Mr. Lajos Gerse Director of Licensing
and Quality Supervision, Mr. Ferenc Leber Program Director, Ms. Csilla
Tóth Technical Director and Mr. Péter Dombóvári Deputy Head of Department
from MVM Paks II Nuclear Power Plant Development Ltd. also participated
in the meeting as members of the Hungarian delegation.
At the end of the day, the Austrian delegation thanked their Hungarian counterparts for the comprehensive information they received and repeated the invitation to the next bilateral meeting which will take place in Vienna this autumn.
