Quadrilateral Meeting in Slovenia

2015.05.11

On 14th of April, representatives of the Czech, Slovak, Slovenian and Hungarian regulatory authorities held a meeting in Slovenia to share their experiences about nuclear safety and security related events in 2014. The parties discussed current legal and regulatory issues as well as ongoing administrative procedures of high relevance.

The annual quadrilateral meeting of directors of the Czech, Slovak, Slovenian and Hungarian Atomic Energy Authorities was held on 14-15th of April, 2015, in Slovenia.  The Hungarian delegation was headed by the Deputy Directors of HAEA, Mr. Kristóf Horváth and Mr. Szabolcs Hullán. Mr. Gábor Petőfi, Head of Department and Mr. András Molnár, senior adviser on external relations participated as further members of the HAEA delegation.

The meeting provided a good opportunity to hold consultations about the legal and organisational changes relevant to the work of the authorities. The national implementation of EU directives was also one of the main points of the Agenda.

The representatives gave a brief summary and shared their experiences about safety events of nuclear facilities in their countries, in 2014.

The representatives of the authorities of the neighbouring countries highly appreciated the Hungarian practice of nuclear power plant service lifetime extension. They were very interested in the regulatory procedures of the HAEA in connection with the new nuclear units, especially in the two-step site-licensing procedure.

The International Regulatory Review Mission was also an important issue: the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Slovakia shared their former experiences, which were extremely useful for the Hungarian participants, since an IRRS mission will take place in Hungary, in May.

The next quadrilateral meeting is to be organised by the Czech Republic.
