The delegation of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine – led by the Chairman, Hryhorii Plachkov, paid a visit to Hungary from 18 to 19 February, 2019. The delegation was received by Mr Gyula Fichtinger, Director General of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority.
The presentations introduced the steps
of implementing Westinghouse manufactured fuel, the safety analyses that
had been performed. Detailed information on the problems encountered with
the structural integrity of the fuel during operation, as well as the modifications
made to eliminate it, were presented.
The HAEA representative gave an overview
on the nuclear fuel licensing requirements in Hungary. The expert of the
Paks Nuclear Power Plant shared experience on the Hungarian practice to
licence new fuel for VVER-440s, and the ongoing nuclear fuel modification.
On the second day the delegation visited the Paks NPP and the Spent Fuel Interim Storage Facility.
