During the 60th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency, representatives of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority initiated several bilateral meetings providing an opportunity to further strengthen international cooperation and the exchange of information.
In the bilateral meetings held with the
nuclear regulatory authorities of the USA, the Republic of Belarus, the
Czech Republic, Egypt, Finland, France, Croatia, the Russian Federation,
Serbia, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Turkey and Ukraine, information
was provided about the legislative changes in Hungary, the transfer of
radiation protection related competences, the recent developments at the
HAEA in connection with the new nuclear units, the status of the National Action Plan and the outcomes of the latest international missions (IRRS
and EPREV) to Hungary.
Memoranda of Understanding were signed
with the nuclear regulatory authorities of the Republic of Belarus and
Ukraine giving a framework for a deeper regulatory cooperation. Upon these
Memoranda the regulatory bodies shall cooperate in the areas of improving
the legislative basis and quality management of the regulatory activities,
the inspections programs, the regulatory supervision of management of nuclear
materials, nuclear waste and spent nuclear fuel, the regulatory assessments
of plans and measures, actions taken by the regulatory bodies in the case
of an emergency in the form of exchange of information and personnel, and
through implementation of joint projects.
These meetings also gave the opportunity for the parties to identify new areas of cooperation and to mark the direction of cooperation for the next year. The experts of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority, moreover, held a consultation with the World Institute on Nuclear Security in order to define the possible ways of cooperation.
