On 24-25th of July, 2017 Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority received a five-member dele-gation from Jordan. The scientific visit was organized by ENCO (an independent expert company involved in radioactive waste management). The Jordanian nuclear and envi-ronmental protection specialists came to Hungary to gain knowledge of radioactive waste management and to receive information from a country that has wide experience in this field.
In accordance with the
goal of the scientific visit and ENCO’s request, the HAEA elaborated a
two days programme for the Jordan delegation. Presentations were held in
the following topics: Hungary’s National Policy and Programme for Radioactive
Waste and Spent Nuclear Fuel Management, the legal framework and the regulatory
authority system, licensing and inspection processes at the Authority,
organization of public hearings and international cooperation for radioactive
waste management.
After the interactive presentations,
Jordanian experts had the opportunity to discuss the topics with the experts
of the HAEA in detail.
During the second half
of the week, the delegation visited the facilities of PURAM (the Spent
Fuel Interim Storage, the National Radioactive Waste Repository and the
Radioactive Waste Treatment and Disposal Facility).
