IAEA ARTEMIS mission

From March 21, 2022, in coordination of the International Atomic Energy Agency an international delegation of six experts reviews the national system for the management of spent fuel and radioactive waste for 9 days.


At the official opening, Ms Andrea Beatrix Kádár, President of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority first of all thanked the members of the delegation for their flexible attitude towards the rescheduling of the ARTEMIS mission due to the pandemic. She gave an overview regarding changes in the legislation aimed at guaranteeing more efficient performance of the Authority. She stressed that HAEA has always been committed to the added values of IAEA missions that review and evaluate the national legislations and practices in different nuclear areas.

On behalf of the IAEA, Mr Andrey Guskhov, in his introductory remarks emphasized Hungary's experience in the field of spent fuel and radioactive waste management and expressed his appreciation for the contribution Hungarian experts have made to the work of the IAEA.

The expert team leader, Mr David Ulfbeck noted that Hungary is taking commendable steps to foster the efficiency of spent fuel and radioactive waste management. He said that members of the current mission will present their expert evaluation on the basis of the approved Advance Reference Material, exchange of experience and constructive dialogue with Hungarian experts.
