The Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority hosted the TC Europe Regional Workshop of the International Atomic Energy Agency on Safety Culture from 29 to 30 March, 2019. The participants of the event focused on the different aspects of the Management, Leadership and Culture for Radiation Safety (how to set up, develop and integrate it with other management systems such as the quality management system and labour safety system).
In his welcome speech, Mr Árpád Vincze,
Head of Department of the HAEA highlighted that it is an important task
and a great honour for the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority to host IAEA
events, training courses and workshops.
On the first day, the IAEA experts gave
detailed information about the IAEA safety standards and requirements on
leadership and culture for radiation safety (GSR Part 2), described the
features of the radiation safety culture, and gave examples on management
activities to set up a high level radiation safety culture. They also gave
examples of control activities and described the symptoms of a weakening
safety culture.
The participants gave presentations about
their national experience in promoting leadership and culture for radiation
safety.
On the second day, discussions about
radiation safety, management and leadership continued in five working groups,
after which short presentations were held about the results.
At the end of the workshop the participants
summarised their experiences and expressed their need for a training course
which explains the IAEA requirements with an even more practical approach.
The organizers informed them about plans for an e-learning course and for
local training courses with practical knowledge in the field.
