Between 30th May and 1st June 2017, the 60th Anniversary International Conference on the IAEA Technical Cooperation took place in Vienna, with the attendance of more than 1160 participants from 160 countries and 27 organizations. The Conference was opened by Mr Yukija Amano, Director General of the IAEA. In his introductory speech, Mr Amano stressed the critical role of science and technology in development, and said that transferring nuclear technology to developing countries is core IAEA business. “The technical cooperation programme has improved the health and prosperity of millions of people” added the Director General.
Hungary has been a member
state of IAEA since 1957. Cooperation with the Agency is coordinated by
the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority. From the beginning, Hungarian counterpartsin
nuclear field are important participants of the Technical Cooperation Programme.
On the second day of the conference, Mr András Molnár, retired external
relations officer of the HAEA was invited by the IAEA to share his many
years’ professional experience with the participants in the panel discussion
about energy planning and nuclear power infrastructure.
In addition to side events, exhibitions were held on the margin of the Conference, with the participation of two Hungarian companies: Mediso Medical Imaging Systems, manufacturer of medical imaging equipment and Gamma Technical Corporation, acting in the field of nuclear monitoring. A cooperation agreement was also signed between Gamma Technical Corporation and their Indonesian partners.
